What's a hero? What do people do to be a hero?
I think of a hero as confident, selfless, and courages. A hero would rather save someone then save his or her self. They would die to save someone and not even need a reward. Most heroes don't consider what might happen to them in the act of helping. Those are some of the things I think a hero does. Also being a hero isn't always about rescuing. It can be something simple! Doing lots of favors and good deeds can make you a hero. Finally, my personal hero is Terry Fox! I think he is a great hero because he was very determined to cure cancer and reach his goal. Most of all, he didn't give up! So I think anyone could be a hero!
Heroism Part B
In Forbidden City there were heroes, the one that fit my definition as most heroic and repectful was... Xin-hua. This person escorted Alex to a Canadian embassy while he had a wounded leg! I thought Xin-hua was resilient because she carried Alex on a Che (bike with a flat bed) through Beijing from page 214 to 255. I have a quote to go with it! Pg. 246 "Every once in a while a troop truck roared by. They went both directions. Which didn't seem to efficient to me. Every time a truck full of green uniformed men appeared Xin-hua's shoulders would tense up and she'd pedal harder and I'd feel my nerve ends screaming at me." I also think she is brave because she wanted to take Alex to the embassy and made up a little story to tell every PLA soldier to help get Alex and the tapes out of China. Pg. 252 "The first one snapped a question at Xin-hua. She answered him, probably spinning out the story she dreamed up, that we were from one of the near brigades and we p on our way to the Airport guest house to see if we could drum a little hauling business on the Che." Finally, I thought she was selfles as she died to save Alex! She changed the story when she sacrificed herself and let Alex live! One of the quotes I got for this trait was...Pg. 249 "Um, I've been thinking that Xin-hua. I think I can go on my own from here. I can walk. And maybe I can hitch a ride on a taxi or tour bus". I didn't really believe that and I guess she didn't either. She shook her head without even think about what I had said. "No, no. We go together." This defiantly meant she wasn't going to let Alex go and get the tapes out of China himself. These are the reasons I think make Xin-hua a true hero.
This is from a book called Forbidden City. It is a mini essay that we did when we finished the book, and this is a draft which needed peer feedback to improve on my past drafts. The essay was about who do you think is a hero in the book. Also it was about your feelings on how a hero is to you.
